Camera Operator Scotland

Working as a camera operator for Shape History, I recently had the opportunity to work on a film for Shelter Scotland, which aimed to raise awareness about the issue of homelessness.

The shoot took place in a school, where we had five different setups to capture children’s perspectives on what could be done about homelessness. As a camera operator, my role was to capture the footage that would bring the story to life, and to work alongside the production team to ensure that we captured the shots we needed.

One of the key elements of the shoot was the lighting. We knew that we needed to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that would make the children feel comfortable and encourage them to share their thoughts and feelings. To achieve this, we used a range of lighting equipment, including the Aputure 600c as the key light, a Falcon Eyes panel overhead, and a 300d with a spotlight mount that cast a shadow onto the back wall.

Before the shoot, we conducted a recce of the location to identify the best areas for each setup and to plan the lighting. This was essential in ensuring that we knew exactly how the day would pan out and that we had all the equipment we needed. We also worked closely with the production team to ensure that we had a clear understanding of the creative brief and the story we wanted to tell.

On the day of the shoot, we were able to put our plan into action, and everything went smoothly. The children were amazing, and it was incredible to hear their thoughts and ideas on how we could tackle homelessness. As a camera operator, it was my job to capture the magic of the moment, and I feel that we were able to achieve this through our careful planning and attention to detail.

Overall, working as a camera operator for Shape History on this project was an incredibly rewarding experience. It was inspiring to be part of a team that is dedicated to using their skills and creativity to make a positive impact on society. I am proud to have played a small role in creating a film that will help to raise awareness of homelessness and encourage people to take action.
