I was delighted when Kingsbarns Distillery approached me to produce a film celebrating the unveiling of their first batch of Whisky, exactly three years and a day since they filled their first cask. This was a momentous occasion for the distillery, so I wanted to produce a film that captured the sense of pride and significance surrounding the event.
The client drafted a rough script which was then refined and used as a basis for my interview with Peter the distiller, asking questions which would naturally prompt the responses we were after. This technique allows for a much more authentic telling of the story, rather than Peter reading from a script. We spent the morning in the doocot with Peter filming the piece to camera, and the afternoon picking up beautifully composed shots around the distillery, making sure to capture some of that inviting golden light that emulates the warmth of the whisky. Filming in a working distillery, we had to plan carefully to ensure we did not hold back production – I visited the site for a recce in advance of the shoot, so that I knew where and when we needed to be to get the desired shots for our film.
The client was overjoyed with the result and after sharing across all their social media platforms, the feedback from the public was also very positive!
