The RNLI approached me as they wanted to create a film telling the real life story of a young boy named Evan whose life was saved by their float to live campaign. Evan was at the beach with his friends when a rogue wave dragged him out into a strong rip current. Having seen the widely publicised RNLI campaign just a few weeks before, he knew what to do when he found himself in trouble. That knowledge saved his life.
When I read Evan’s incredible story, I could immediately see how the edit would come together. Sensitively filming Evan at the scene of the accident, cutting in footage from the original campaign advert, created a clear narrative and a strong emotional hook for the viewer.
The film was highly effective in communicating the success of RNLI’s campaign, further promoting the original message of that campaign. I also created shorted edits for social media use, so that the film reached younger audiences.
